Click here for letters of recommendation I became a teenager in the late 70's. I loved reading my Teen Beat magazine while listening to Andy Gibb and Debbie Boone on my green plastic transistor AM radio. (It was a momentary lapse, my childhood, rich with opera, musical theatre, classics and swing, later reemerges to bring me back to my senses.) I started to have more hair, but what in the world was I supposed to do with it? Photo: pic of Kristy McNicol, a teen star of the era. I never saw much of her work, but she was always cavorting across the pages of Teen Beat with Leif Garrett and sharing her secrets to loosing a few pounds, "Eat only cottage cheese for a few days."

Click here to listen to some storytelling clips In my early 40's, I went back to school in theatre performance with an emphasis in playwrighting. It was a powerful time of deconstruction and re-creation. At the heart of everything I did and explored was story.  This will always be a favored chapter in my story. Photo: stock photo

Click here for bios This photo looks so much like an actual photo taken of me at this age. When I was young, I was always in what my mother called a page boy hair cut. You have no idea how much spending years in this hair cut defined me. Growing up with hair you barely had to comb, stunted my growth and my hair care skills are still anemic! Photo: stock photo

Click here to purchase product I went to high school in the early 80's. Now maturing in my cultural tastes, I said goodbye to my Bonne Belle Lip Smackers and focused on perfecting my New Wave dance moves to "Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto." I was gaining a confidence, but was still struggling with the hair. (It makes me so happy to know that even Sandra went through a bad hair phase - too bad I'm still in it.) Click here for resume I was a devout tomboy. I can't tell you how many people asked me when I was growing up if I was a boy or girl. I really relate to the character of Scout, she had her eyes wide open and was hungry to take in and understand the world. Photo: A still of Scout from the 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird

Click here to listen to sample stories I married young and had children young and in many ways lived a traditional stay-at-home existence from another era. I loved it and found parenting a great creative outlet - of course, I was always learning and trying new things along the way - that's how I found storytelling, and plays, and singing and writing and... Disclaimer: I never baked cakes and my hair never looked that good. Click here for quotes about my work This photo encapsulates so much about me in the 70s. I loved watching Wonder Woman (and Gilligan's Island and Hogan's Heroes and Six Billion Dollar Man and Fantasy Island and...) We were rabid TV watchers, but oh, how I loved to read! Hopefully, somewhere along the way all those then-classics (Treasure Island and David Copperfield) and now-classics (Ramona the Pest and Stuart Little) helped offset the vapid entertainment of the 70's. A big shout out to Ramona - another kindred spirit. Photo: stock photo
